Cocoon Ceiling Pendant attributed to Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Italy, 1970's

After exploring new uses for a newly innovated liquid resin-based plastic in the late 1950’s, Flos pioneered the unique and now classic styling of the Cocoon family of lights. The key process consists of creating two layers of cocoon, the first thicker, the second much thinner, applied through a spray gun while the frame twirls on a spinning base. The result is a stunning silk-like wrap, very similar to a real cocoon made by a silkworm, hence the name.
