Ludovico Diaz de Santillana was born in 1931 in Rome. He is Anna Venini’s husband (Anna is Paolo Venini’s daughter) and Laura de Santillana’s father. After Paolo Venini’s death in 1960, Ludovico de Santillana took over the artistic direction of the family-owned manufacture. He opened the company’s doors to young Americans, including Thomas Stearns, Ken Scott and Benjamin Moore for example. He collaborated with Tobia Scarpa, Carlo’s son, especially for the development of the 'Battuti' series, which met with great commercial success.

For the premises of the financial institution, constructed after a design by the architect Manfredo Vaccari Giglioli, the glassworks was involved in the creation of a complex ceiling light structure for the large public hall, with square panels (45 × 45 cm) having a protruding part with an oval-shaped cross-section. The panels are in cristallo glass and in some cases include patches of teal and pogliesco colour at the embossing.
This piece, created by Venini in the early 1970s, was specially commissioned for the "Cassa di Risparmio di Cento" bank in Cento, Ferrara, Italy. Known as "Pannelli," these works are believed to be the only time Venini ever produced such pieces, making them exceptionally rare and unique.
