Wall applique by Gaetano Sciolari- An Italian designer and entrepreneur who made significant contribution to the success of Italian Design all over the world. After graduating in Architecture, he further explored his passion of cinema and filmmaking but after his fathers death in 1949 Sciolari had to manage the family business of light production. The family had been in the lighting business since 1892, according to a biography- practically since electricity was invented. In just a few years, the designer transformed the business into an international enterprise and became the first Italian lights seller in the US. Gaetano was a brilliant businessman, but he was also a prolific and talented designer and worked for the great names of design such as Stilnovo and Boulanger.     Gaetano Sciolari was an Italian designer known for his mid-century Modern lighting fixtures. Born around the turn of the 20th century, Sciolari, the child of an Italian lighting family that had been producing light fixtures since 1892, began designing for the Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950s. It was there that he created his most recognizable and celebrated designs, a series of multi-light chandeliers fashioned with both glossy and matte metal, conjuring up futuristic visions of the dawning space age.
