Introducing Andrea Mancuso from Analogia Project
Profile

The work of Italian designer Andrea Mancuso strikes a fine balance between the fantastical and the everyday. Originally from Rome, Mancuso spent his early career in London, a creatively formative period that steered Mancuso’s practice towards the experimental and imaginary. He has since nurtured a rigorously research-based approach, deeply indebted to the persuasive power of storytelling. In 2011 he went on to found his own firm, Analogia Project, which debuted at the invitation of Will Alsop during London Design Week. He has since lent his unique perspective to brands and institutions like Hermes, Fendi, Perrier-Jouët, Nilufar Gallery, Bulgari, Lema, Slamp and Wallpaper*, creating furniture, installations and exhibitions that evoke narratives in a way that transcends culture, time and space. His projects have been published worldwide and exhibited in major international fairs. Since 2017 he has taught the Master of Interior Design course at NABA Academy in Milan.

Analogia Project is a research-based design studio that creates objects, furniture and installations. The practice is characterised by a narrative-driven approach, challenging the perception of space while foregrounding deep historical investigation and a creative interpretation of materials.

Founded in London in 2011 by Andrea Mancuso and Emilia Serra, Analogia Project first exhibited at the invitation of Will Alsop during London Design Week that year.

The exhibition, an exploration of domestic interiors that took the form of a three-dimensional sketch of a living room rendered in wool, went on to be shown internationally in various iterations in Milan, Dubai and Tokyo. As the studio grew and developed this blend of the fantastical and the every day has remained a fil rouge, recently evidenced in projects like Metamorphosis for Perrier-Jouët launched at Design Miami 2019, an immersive scenography composed of 11,000 mounted ceramic pieces inspired by the gradient of colours that envelops the historic winery’s vineyards during harvest time. Within each object, there is the presence of a personal history, an element that recalls the personal experience of everyday life.

"I believe that an object or a space has a great narrative
potential: it embodies the ability to make people think, fantasise, remember, dream..."

Originally formed as a creative duo, from 2017 Andrea Mancuso remains the studio’s principal designer while Emilia Serra, a graduate of Royal College of Art with a research MPhil, has expanded her practice and research into experimental, academic and advising collaborations on cultural projects.
