Italian, 13 Cubic applique by Gaetano Scolari, 1970s

The Cubic light is an icon of Italian Mid- Century Modern Design. Gaetano Scolari designed this light in the 70s. The frame consists of polished chrome cubic rectangles attached by brushed steel arches. Each cube is staggered and finished with a removeable textured Lucite shade in which to house the bulb. It looks spectacular on or off.

    Gaetano Sciolari was an Italian designer known for his mid-century Modern lighting fixtures. Born around the turn of the 20th century, Sciolari, the child of an Italian lighting family that had been producing light fixtures since 1892, began designing for the Italian manufacturer Stilnovo in the 1950s. It was there that he created his most recognizable and celebrated designs, a series of multi-light chandeliers fashioned with both glossy and matte metal, conjuring up futuristic visions of the dawning space age.
